Pigmentation

Sun damage

Sun spots, fine lines and rough, uneven skin from years of sun.

What is it?

Years of sun leave traces in the skin. You mainly see them on the face, neck, décolleté and hands: small brown sun spots, fine lines, rougher or thinner skin and sometimes red thread veins.

UV light breaks down collagen and stimulates pigment cells. Part of that damage only shows years later. The good news: much of it can be improved, and good protection prevents new damage.

How do you recognise sun damage?

Small light brown spots (solar lentigo) on the cheeks, nose, hands or décolleté. Skin that feels rougher and less even. Fine lines that appear earlier than on areas that are always covered. Red thread veins and redness. On the chest and neck, sometimes red-brown, mottled skin.

What we do about it

With Lumecca IPL or the Ultra Clear Treatment we treat spots and redness over the whole face, neck or décolleté at once. Tixel renews heavily sun-damaged skin and improves lines and texture. A peel makes the skin smoother and more even. We often combine them.

Have it checked first

If you see a spot that stays rough and scaly, grows quickly, changes colour or shape, or bleeds, have it assessed by your GP first. We only treat lesions that are clearly benign. Also read age spots: have them checked first.

How we approach it

Every treatment plan starts with a free 30-minute intake. Your skin therapist examines your skin and discusses what you would like to achieve. We then draw up a treatment plan together. Sometimes one treatment is enough, sometimes we combine two. You also receive advice on caring for your skin at home.

Frequently asked questions

Can sun damage be repaired?

Largely. Spots and redness can often be reduced well, and the skin becomes smoother and firmer as it makes new collagen. It cannot go all the way back, but the difference is usually clear.

Which treatment suits me?

If it is mainly spots and redness, IPL is the more likely choice. If it is mainly lines and rough skin, Tixel or a peel. During the intake we look at what will achieve the most.

Can my neck, décolleté and hands be treated too?

Yes. Lumecca IPL and Tixel can be used on the neck, décolleté and hands. The Ultra Clear Treatment can be used on the face, neck or décolleté.

When is the best time to start?

In autumn or winter. On tanned skin the risk of discolouration is higher, and after every treatment the skin must stay out of the sun for 4 weeks.

How do I prevent new sun damage?

Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, also when it is cloudy, and do not forget your neck and hands. Also read how to prevent pigment spots from the sun.

Is the treatment covered by insurance?

No. Treatments for sun damage are cosmetic and are not covered.

How much does it cost?

Lumecca IPL for the whole face costs € 197, the Ultra Clear Treatment € 225, Tixel for the face from € 200 and a peel from € 90. All prices are on the prices page.

Every result is different. If a photo credits a source, it comes from another clinic that works with the same device. During the intake we discuss what you can expect.
