Health insurance
Referral & insurance
Some treatments qualify for cover under your supplementary health insurance. Here you can read which ones, under which conditions, and when a referral is needed.
What is covered?
Treatments with a medical indication may be covered by supplementary insurance, provided they meet your insurer’s conditions. Examples are:
- Acne therapy on the face
- Scar therapy
- Peels, depending on what they are used for (for example acne)
- Oedema and scar therapy after breast cancer
What does it depend on?
- What your supplementary insurance covers and the amount available each year for skin therapy.
- Where the complaint is: often only treatment on the face is covered.
- Whether the treatment is medically necessary or cosmetic.
What is not covered?
Cosmetic treatments, such as skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing treatments, are not covered by health insurance. Treatments for broken capillaries and pigmentation are no longer covered.
A peel is not automatically cosmetic. Whether a peel is covered depends on what it is used for.
Do you need a referral?
Usually not: you can come to us without a referral. A referral from your GP or specialist is advisable, though. Some insurers also require one, for example for acne therapy and scar therapy after a medical procedure.
Certainty in advance
We have contracts with the major Dutch health insurers. To be sure about your cover, always check with your own insurer. During the intake we are happy to discuss the options with you, so you know where you stand beforehand.
