Skin lesions
Benign skin lesions
Skin tags, seborrhoeic warts, DPN and other harmless lesions.
What is it?
Many people have harmless lesions that still bother them, for example on the neck, under the armpits, on the décolleté or on the face. They can usually be removed quickly with coagulation, cryotherapy or curettage.
Fibromas (skin tags)
Harmless growths of connective tissue, often on the neck and near the armpits.
Dermatosis papulosa nigra
Small brown to black raised spots that mainly occur on darker skin, usually on the temples and forehead.
Seborrhoeic warts and enlarged sebaceous glands
Raised, benign irregularities that can develop over the years.
Why do they develop?
Skin tags often appear where the skin rubs: on the neck under a necklace or collar, in the armpits and under the breasts. They are more common with excess weight, during pregnancy and in some families.
Seborrhoeic warts are mainly related to age and predisposition. They feel slightly rough and look as if they are stuck onto the skin. Neither is contagious.
First a look at what it is
Before we remove anything, the skin therapist examines the spot carefully. Is it growing quickly, changing colour or shape, or bleeding without you touching it? Then we refer you to your GP first. We only remove spots that are clearly benign.
After the treatment
Depending on the method, you will see a small scab or graze afterwards. Leave it alone and do not pick at it; that way it heals best. If the area is exposed to the sun, apply sunscreen for the first few weeks.
How we approach it
Every treatment plan starts with a free 30-minute intake. Your skin therapist examines your skin and discusses what you would like to achieve. We then draw up a treatment plan together. Sometimes one treatment is enough, sometimes we combine two. You also receive advice on caring for your skin at home.
Frequently asked questions
Does removal hurt?
With coagulation you feel a short, warm prick. Cryotherapy feels cold and may sting briefly. For small spots an anaesthetic is usually not needed.
Can a skin tag come back?
A skin tag that has been removed does not come back. New ones can appear over time, often in the same kind of places. Seborrhoeic warts tend to increase in number over the years, so for those we recommend coming back once a year.
What does it cost?
The price depends on the number of spots we remove in one session. The amounts are on the prices page.
