Why use a facial oil?

A cleanser, a serum, a day cream and a night cream: most people use those. A facial oil is less well known. Yet it is a product that makes the rest of your skincare work better. In this article you can read why, and how to choose the right oil.
Different types of facial oil
It is useful to know that there are dry and non-dry oils. So not every oil leaves a greasy layer that can clog the skin.
A dry oil feels dry on the skin. It is not greasy and is therefore suitable for oily skin.
A non-dry oil (a greasy oil) is pleasant for dry skin, for example with eczema or during or after medication that dries out the skin. It leaves a thin layer of oil on the skin, which helps restore the moisture balance.
There are also semi-dry oils. These suit combination skin, because they adapt to what the skin needs in each area.
What does a facial oil do?
We recommend a facial oil to keep the skin in balance. Products with active ingredients such as vitamin C, retinol, glycolic acid or niacinamide are good for the skin, but using a lot of them can throw the skin off balance.
A facial oil helps the skin retain moisture and strengthens the skin barrier. When it is in good condition, the skin also absorbs the active ingredients from your other products better. So you get more out of the skincare you already use.
Do pay attention to the order. Start with cleansing, then apply your serum, then your cream, and use the facial oil last. Let each product absorb for a moment, otherwise it will pill on the skin.
