Scar therapy

There are different types of scars. Depending on the type of scar, the age of the scar and the origin of the scar, a personal treatment plan can be drawn up within the practice. A scar is an area of skin consisting of firm connective tissue that feels firm to the touch and is created when a wound heals. The tissue is richer in fibers and  poorer in cells, vessels and moisture, resulting in an abnormal skin area.

The treatment

Within the practice, scar massage can be used to treat scars. This form of massaging is initially manual (with the hands). Complementary therapies such as Tixel or endermology LPG also provide an opportunity to improve the quality of the scar. This device can be used specifically to make the scar tissue smoother, flatter and more even.

Microneedling therapy is also a treatment method to improve the depth of scar tissue. During this process, the production of collagen and elastin is promoted. The skin becomes smoother, more elastic, finer in structure and more even in colour. The surrounding skin also gets more flexibility, which reduces the adhesion and hardening of the scar. This in turn ensures that any movement restrictions are reduced.

We also often apply silicone plasters for thickened scars (hypertrophic scars). As a result, the scar tissue ripens faster, improves hydration and flattens the tissue. Lymph taping is an additional method of loosening scar tissue. This elastic tape gives a stretch stimulus to the skin, making the tissue softer.
