A wart is a hard, calloused growth of the epidermis in the form of a cauliflower-shaped nodule. A wart is caused by a virus from the human papilloma (HPV) family. Some viruses cause warts on the skin, others on the mucous membranes. Warts often show up on the hands and feet.
Stretch marks are marks that can appear on the skin of the body when the skin grows rapidly. The best known example is that of a woman's stomach during pregnancy. However, they can also develop on breasts or thighs if they grow faster than the skin can keep up with. The connective tissue is torn subcutaneously by excessive tension, which is not painful, but does lead to purple-red marks that turn into white scars after a few years.

The amounts of collagen and elastin (the fibers that provide the firmness of the skin) also decrease, causing the subcutaneous connective tissue to lose its firmness. In addition, the skull shrinks with age, causing the skin around it to become looser. All of this makes the skin look and feel slacker and less resilient.
